It seemed that churning, childish emotions of teenage years had descended on Ari's apartment. Really, what was Peter thinking, using his fists. Violence solved nothing. Except for making him look foolish. Didn't the man see that Curse was in no condition to fight back? Peter could have caused serious damage. Ari quietly fumed. She did not like being interrupted and then made to feel like she was an arrant child. Did Peter not think that she couldn't take care of herself? If Ari did not welcome the attentions she was more than capable of defending herself. She did not need her cousin to fling off horny men. While it was also flattering that he cared enough to help her, at the moment she wasn't thinking about that. Frustration poked at her but she fought down the urge to scream at them all forcing everyone out of her apartment. That would really be a teenage thing to do. She was not going to be the child in this confrontation. Besides, sending them away would only anger her family more, cause more questions, gossip, and have them coming back tomorrow.
"I knew what I was doing."
Ari rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. Her face all but screamed, bull shit. The man was ruled by volatile emotions, he could have wildly flung out and hit Amelia. Didn't the man care? His gaze did soften a bit but Ari was still angry and her eyes turned blacker when he muttered that he should castrate Curse. Men! Just because she was kissing someone did not mean she was sleeping with them. Did Peter really think so little of her? Ari opened her mouth to snarl at Peter but Amelia had beat her to it.
"You would do no such thing! The only boxing match you've ever won was in primary school, and you hate to admit it. If anyone deserves it, it's definitely Kris--"
Ari was looking a bit smug at Peter. It was true, he was horrible at boxing. If memory served, she could throw a better punch as a kid, than he could. Not that she was much better... "--but that still doesn't make it right." "And you. Do you remember the chat we had, once Peter and I learned about all this nonsense? I said keep your hands to yourself. Jesus, Kris, you couldn't bloody keep it in your pants to save your life--"
At first, Ari was enjoying seeing the wrath of Amelia, then the fickle creature turned. Ari's face turned bright red with embarrassment and anger. How dare Amelia call Curse the male equivalent of a whore. He didn't sleep around. Merlin, he'd been a teenager when he fathered Max for heaven's sake! And why did everyone seem to assume that it was Curse who couldn't keep his hands to himself? ARI, not Curse had started it.
"You don't have any bloody idea what you're talking about. Because you never bloody listen! Arianna and I were engaged years before you two even met each other. What we do is none of your business. Before you issue anymore ultimatums, just shut up for once."
Peter started to rise. What to kill Curse for dressing down his wife? She deserved it. Arianna took a deep breath before addressing her cousin.
"Peter, you had no right barging into my home and assaulting my date. I care about you, but this is my life and if I want to kiss C--Kris Kameren, then that is my choice."
"Anna, remember what he did to you."
Arianna paled at Peter's words. Did he know that Ari had miscarried? How? She hadn't said much to her family when she had left England. Only that she needed to get away, her engagement was off, and the work was an amazing opportunity.
"It didn't take magic to know why you left so suddenly. He's a bloody psychopath--"
"I am not a psychopath."
Ari jumped up stalking to Peter, eyes blazing. "HE's not a psychopath! God, Peter. Do you hear yourself? You know nothing--NOTHING, about the reasons I left. I don't have to explain myself, but because I know you care Peter, I was young and foolish, in over my head. I woke up one day and found I didn't want marriage then. i wanted adventure. So I left the ring and went to Italy. And that's all I'm going to say about the issue." she said softly, turning her back to her her cousin and resuming her seat on the arm next to Curse.
"Now why are you here?"
Ari watched as Amelia and Peter glanced at each other hesitating. Must have been big news.
"I'm pregnant. Peter wanted to share the good news with you first, but you were apparently..." Amelia looked Arianna up and down, arching a brow judgmentally. "Busy."
Ari hadn't seen the insulting look. All she had heard was the word pregnant and the world tilted. Hearing was then impossible as thoughts crowded her brain. Pregnant. This woman who barely had time for her own son, was having another child. IT WASN'T BLOODY FAIR, her mind screamed. A small ache started in Ari's empty womb, and a chill swept through her. Then she felt it. Curse's reassuring squeeze, stopped the cold from freezing her. She glanced at him, a small, slight, soft smile on her lips. The initial hurt passed and bittersweet happiness joined her. She was going to be an aunt again!
"Congratulations, you two. I'm sure you must be very excited about the news."
Ari smiled brightly, and if it didn't wash away all of the darkness, who but Curse would know?
"You'll be wonderful parents." She said looking at Peter. For all of his high handedness, he was a good person and she had little doubts that he'd make a good father to his own child. And just maybe learn to love Max.
"Does Max know you're shagging his aunt?"
That did it. Ari shot off her perch and stalked to Amelia, her hands balled up into fists.
" I am NOT SHAGGING anyone! We were just kissing! KISSING. Now, if you want to continue to ridicule us, you can do that elsewhere. When Curse and I become serious again we will tell Max. KEY WORD. Curse and I will tell him, for it is our business. I love you like a sister Amelia, but you both try the patience of a Saint."
