“Matti! Did you hear the ex-auror Curse Kameren is Potions Master this year?”
The name meant far less to him than it apparently did to Nuriko; for all his interest in the magical world, Matt was hard-pressed to keep track of it, especially during summer. Having gone to the eastern United States this particular summer, he'd spent a great deal of time in the homes of relatives, where owls dropping off magical newspapers were sure to be questioned. In between the ship there (his mother was terrified of flying), the relatives, and the ship back, he'd felt entirely Muggle.
“He’s really good! I’m actually looking forward to potions this year!”
Pulling a face, Matt said, "Yeah, you would." Good teacher or not, Potions wasn't his idea of a good time, and if not for Nuri's assistance, it would have been downright unpleasant. His OWL results meant he wouldn't be taking the class again--something that delighted him to no end--but the memories of acrid smoke and pungent smells from a botched cauldronful of Calming Draught still haunted his memories.
“Bu--” Riko looked to Matti for an explanation, she pointed towards the compartment, her face shocked. “Matti! Was that… was that Emery??”
She wasn't referring to the one who'd been running, was she? "He can't be," he said, gaping after their classmate in disbelief. "Not unless he discovered coffee over the summer." A lot of coffee.
Following Nuriko onto the train, he did his best to keep his luggage out of the way; the corridor was choked with students, though many of them had already dumped their trunks in a compartment and now just wanted to find their friends. Fortunately, Nuri had led them to a compartment, and Matt was pleased to find it occupied by Erin and the new, coffee-fueled Emery.
“Back to Hogwarts we go!”
"And away from the caffeine we go," he said, turning a stern look at Emery. It was quite probable he would have no idea what Matt was talking about, but, honestly, that was the way Matt preferred it.
Ooh, this is going to be a FUN year.
