"Evening Kameren," Curse nodded in proper greeting to the new Head Auror, his sharp emerald gaze meeting Tywin's icy blue."I'd been sending Alex owls all day, trying to get him to sign some forms. Apparently he left early. My last owl I sent only ten minutes ago. It returned from the direction of Knockturn Alley, shaking and agitated, feathers all going different directions."
The ex-auror didn't say anything, just downcast his eyes. Then Curse's fears were realized. His hands turned slowly to white-knuckle fists; he wanted to scream at his brother, to find him and reprimand him for being so stupid. But that would wait until he was safe. "I was told of an attack, by a student at the school. A man who she first thought was me, but only looked like me. I wanted to come and check here, hoping it wasn't who I thought it was. Apparently I was wrong."
"Reports of a dark wizards group," he folded his arms. "It may be coincidence, but maybe Alex thought he could investigate by himself. What do you think?"
"Nothing is ever a coincidence. You just do not have all the missing pieces." Eden stepped out from behind Curse, looking up at the Head Auror from her child's height. Curse nodded, glancing between Eden and Tywin as if to tell the Head Auror: this is the student.
"Sounds like him," Curse sighed, running a hand through his black-and-white hair in frustration. "We need to find him. Now." His patience thinned as Eden informed Tynan of what was going on; he understood that Tynan needed to know, but it was urgent that they get going, or they might be too late.
"Can you tell us where, love? Did you see these in a dream, or in an object?"
"She already described it to me," Curse replied, his emerald eyes lingering for a second on Eden's drawings before looking back up at Tynan. "From what she said, sounded like Knockturn Alley, somewhere around the Southern end." The ex-auror was tense with urgency, ready to burst from the Ministry like a bullet from a gun. There was a life on the line. That was all the information they needed for now. "We need to go." He looked down at Eden, picking her up again so they could apparate away. "Borgin & Burke's was one of the signs she mentioned. We'll apparate there." A flash of worry went through Curse's emerald eyes as he turned on his heel, and he and the young seer were gone.
.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
BANG.
Curse and Eden now stood in the vein-like alleyways of Knockturn Alley, and the auror set the young girl down once more. "Now Eden, when we get to the alley, I need you to stay behind as much as you can. Eowin and I are trained to handle things like this, and I can't have you getting hurt," The potions master still found it in him to flash a small kind smile at the Gryffindor, before getting back to work. Curse closed his eyes, his ears changing on the inside to his cat form, where they were more adept at picking up smaller noises.
EEEEIIIEIIEIeeeii -c-c--cc-c-c...
Curse winced when he heard the loud shriek from only a few alleys down. He didn't need his cat-senses to hear it; Alex and the creature were far closer than he had thought they'd be. "Come on!" Curse whipped Eden back up into his arms as he took off at a sprint, setting her back down gently when they got in front of the alley. Curse stared down the darkness, ignoring the fear in his stomach. If Alex was beyond help...
"Stay here, Eden," He said sternly, before stepping into the darkness himself.

EEEEIIIEIIEIeeeii -c-c--cc-c-c... The creature shrieked in rejoice for its fortune of coming across such a delicious meal. This man had more stores of magic than most others; so much magic that the creature could be strong for weeks. The blood of this soul was a feast, a rare beacon of magic rarely found by its kind.
Then, it stopped. Silent, unmoving. There was company in the alleyway; someone was trying to impede on the Creature's feast. It turned slowly around to face its adversaries.
Two more men. Two more sources of magical sustenance for the creature to enjoy. Delicious.

It was a night of belief. The important man actually believed her. Yes he was surprised but there was no suspicion in his pretty face, that reminded her of her own brother. Perhaps when Emery was older he would be as pretty as this man and perhaps as successful.
He did not laugh at her drawings but instead stiffened, innately fearing what he saw. Smart man. Then something moved. Out of the corner of her eye Eden saw a pile of papers on a rather messy desk jump. Were they alive? Curiously Eden glanced back at Curse but nothing on his face told her that he had seen it. He was just stoic, worrying most likely. She'd be in a frenzy if it had been Emery being eaten by a monster. She'd not be standing there that was for sure.
Eden rolled her eyes when the blond man knelt to her eye level and took her book. He better give it back and he hadn't needed to waste time and get on her level. She wasn't a scared baby.
"Can you tell us where, love? Did you see these in a dream, or in an object?"
"She already described it to me,"
Eden had opened her mouth to reply when Curse interrupted. She glanced at her Professor, letting him take lead. He was right of course. For a minute Eden was worried that they'd leave her at the ministry all by herself. She did not want to be alone for fear of dreaming again.
Strong arms scooped her up again and they were off. Cool, moist air nipped at Eden's bare feet. She peeled open her eyes to see the Alley from her dreams. So this was Kockturn Alley. Her grandmother would surely faint if she heard that her little Princess had been trasping through a dark wizard part of town in her nighties.
Eden hoped down, her blue eyes exploring the strange part of town. She was searching for anything that reminded her of her dream for she knew while this was the right place the scene of the crime was farther down.
Eden flashed her own adventitious smile at Curse, praying that he hadn't noticed her quaking knees.
"Oww." She let out a surprised gasp as Curse roughly and unceremoniously grabbed her and started running. Bouncing up and down, eden almost didn't notice the blood trail. They were definitely in the right place.
Then Curse stopped suddenly, and set Eden down behind a building, leading down a side Alley.
"Stay here, Eden,"
Eden nodded her head but did not verbally promise to stay put. She wasn't a coward, but neither was she stupid. As soon as the grown ups headed down the alley and out of sight, Eden climbed on to drainage pipe to the low roof of what looked like a small shop. Slowly, she made her way towards the action, thankful that buildings were so close together.
Eden paused, clinging a chimney when she first spotted the creature, blood dripping from it's hungry jaws. She shuddered as images of it's power nearly overwhelmed her. Then she saw something. An image of the man lying on the floor, moments earlier trying to fight the creature. His spells just made the monster happy. It ate the magic.
Eden dislodged herself from her safe haven and scurried down the sloped roof and on to the other, she was above the building where Alex lay, seeing everything above her.
"DON'T USE MAGIC. IT MAKES IT STRONGER!!" She shouted, fear making her voice loud.

Eoin apparated right after Curse, appearing by his side and drawing his wand. Darkness, thick and oily, was emanating from this place. It was something not quite visible, like afterimages seen at the corner of one's eye. More of a magical sense assailing them, bringing only one conclusion, affirmed by the increased pain in Eoin chest, a sympathetic pang to the shadows ahead.
Evil.
Focusing on the darkness inside him, he forced it back, setting up a mental wall against it. Now was definitely *not* the time for his curse to act up.
The metallic tang of blood hit him as he followed Curse ahead. A still form, curled up in pain, lay on the cobbled ground. And there, the Creature. Eoin sank into a fighting pose, prepared to fight physically as well as magically.
"DON'T USE MAGIC. IT MAKES IT STRONGER!!" Eden's voice, cracked through with fear, echoed around them, bringing the demon's attentions around sharply.
It's head swung in her direction, and Eoin took the distraction as an opportunity. He dove beneath it, rapping out his hands in quick succession, blows meant to cripple. He rolled out on the other side, coming back to his feet. He hoped the creature wouldn't sense the darkness inside him. If it fed on magic....

Curse's eyes fell on the limp figure on the ground, and the seasoned auror did something he had never done: he froze. He was paralyzed by his brother's unconscious body. He couldn't move, couldn't speak. All he could do was stare. The panic rose up in him before he could push it down and use it to act, and now he was speechless.
"DON'T USE MAGIC. IT MAKES IT STRONGER!!" The sound of Eden's fearful voice snapped Curse out of his trance and back into the situation. The beast was distracted by Eden's yell, and as it turned towards her, Tynan made his attack, hitting the beast along its underbelly.
It writhed in the pain of the Head Auror's attack, its flailing moving too quickly for Curse to get out of the way. It beat Curse against the wall with its massive tail, momentarily knocking the wind out of him. "Aagh!" He yelled in sudden pain, not from the hit, but from something in his pocket stabbing him in the leg. He pulled it out, surprising himself when he revealed one of his cutting knives for potions. It was by no means a large weapon, and it surely wouldn't kill the creature, but it would definitely work better than Tynan's physical assault had. They would need more, though, if they wanted to kill the creature...
... It drank his blood. Think, Kris, think... Curse followed quietly behind the creature as it turned on Tynan for retaliation, prepared for a surprise attack against it. Blood, blood, blood. But it's not attacking us for our blood, or else it would be using its claws. Must be something special about Alex's blo--The blood curses! THATS IT!
The Potions Master took a few steps back from the creature, holding his knife out in front of him, though it was still approaching Tynan. He held his knife with the blade downwards in front of him, prepared to put his plan into motion. Whsssssssstt! Curse whistled loudly, calling the attention of the creature towards him. It swung around violently, its ancient eyes locking onto its new target. The ex-auror raised the small potions knife, prepared it for attack--
--and cut a long slit down the back of his own arm with the blade.
The creature went manic at the smell of his blood, charging forward and knocking him over as it pounced. Curse purposely landed with his forearm over his chest, leaving the gash open for the creature to feast. Blood was pouring out of the wound he had opened, but there was something different about Curse Kameren's blood: it wasn't red. The reason for the ex-auror's gaunt visage and haggard looks was because his blood ran pink, dyed lighter by the stains of an irreversible poison. The White Death Poison, which ran freely and openly through his veins. A poison that, though the antidote required magic, the poison itself destroyed the body on its own. The professor laughed maniacally as the creature lapped up its own death.
The creature stopped mid-feast, stumbling backwards from the floored auror. "Nobody move," Curse called out; he knew what came next.
He got up to protect his brother's body from the creature as tremors started to overtake it's muscular system. It stumbled backwards and forwards, knocking over garbage bins in the alley and running into the walls that enclosed them. The tremors turned to full-on shakes and twitches, the creature seizing as its scales started to fade from their deep shadow-grey to a pure, snow white. It curled itself into ball on the ground, seizing miserably as its entire body paled into white. It lifted its head and stared at its killer, locking its yellow eyes with Curse as the yellow faded also to white, and the creature fell limp.
In its death, the creature faded, its white form succumbing to the shadows until there was nothing left to it.
The Potions Master was panting, quivering eyes on the creature's still body for a few seconds after its apparent death. The painful death of the creature disturbed Curse; though his invented antidote lengthened the process, he was enduring the same painful death as the creature was.
His breathing slowed and he went immediately to his brother next to him. "Alex," Curse called at his brother, his voice loud to try to get through to him. He quickly sealed his own wound, cautious to clean up his own blood and keep it away from his friends, before he closed the wounds of his brother. The spells were small and wouldn't hold Alex's heavy injuries, but at least they would stop the bleeding for now. Curse put an ear to his brother's chest, breathing a sigh of relief. "Still alive, but barely," Curse's eyes were frazzled with worry and fear; it was apparent the man was coming slightly undone. This was his ultimate nightmare: the loss of a loved one.
He cast a quick awakening spell on Alex, trying to bring him up from the welcoming depths of unconsciousness. "Alex, Alex. I need you to stay with us as long as you can, at least until we reach the hospital. Alex, please," The professor put his hands on both sides of the younger Kameren's head, closing his eyes. "Legilimens," he muttered under his breath, breaking the seal into Alex's failing mind. His eyelids squeezed shut as he pushed as much energy as he could spare into his brother's consciousness, hopefully giving him enough energy to make it to the hospital.
The energy loss showed immediately on Curse's body; his hair suddenly faded from his natural dark color to the same soft, snow white of the creature, and the professor slumped backwards against the wall. He suddenly became aware of the two people he had kept with him. His sharp emerald eyes lingered on the Head Auror, his mouth too tired to keep up with his busy mind. "Thank you," He slurred, his eyes still lingering a little longer on Tynan.
"And you," His head moved with his eyes as they fell on Eden, the young Gryffindor who had completely disobeyed him. "Five points from Gryffindor. In this situation, you listen to me. I can't keep track of you if you're out in the open like that, and I can't protect you properly. You were lucky Eowin was able to distract it." He spoke frankly at the young girl, the displeasure frank in his voice; he had no energy to put things nicely right now.
"Right then, Mungos." Curse leaned heavily on the wall with his shoulder as he stood, forcing himself to stand straight. "I have enough energy to apparate to Mungo's, but I'm not sure after that. I'll take Eden, you take Alex. He's too much for me right now."
Curse once again lifted the young girl into his arms, this time slowly, to keep himself paced. He knew his limits, and he was seriously pushing them right now. He gave the young girl a stern look, before it melted into a tired, friendly crooked grin. "And, when you get back to Hogwarts, you can also tell your Head of House that I said fifty points for Gryffindor as well." He winked, smiling tiredly as he turned on his heel once more.
BANG.
Mungo's.

"Alex,"
Alex didn’t move from his position slumped against the wall. His body was still, but he still breathed. He was alive. Alex didn’t want to wake up, the massive loss of blood, the yanking of magic forcefully from his very soul -- they hurt. His mind didn’t want to deal with it, so it shut down.
"Alex, Alex. I need you to stay with us as long as you can, at least until we reach the hospital. Alex, please," Wait. What was that? It was something he should care about. Something that he would regret losing. He struggled, retracing his steps. He was nearly there when--
"Legilimens
And suddenly he was there, no struggle against thick dark seas, he was merely there. He opened his eyes slowly, knowing what had happened. His eyes searched for and found his brother. “You big damn idiot.” he said hoarsely, though he wasn’t sure he had actually said it. His ears heard only gibberish. If he had the strength, he would reach over and smack his brother. Taking chances like that… with… he didn’t know what, but it was important, and it was deadly.
Alex closed his eyes, he was too tired to keep them open…

Eoin spun to face the demon-thing again, but Curse had other plans. The Head Auror watched in astonishment as the man cut open his arm and actually let the thing feed on him...and poisoned it with his blood? He'd known something wasn't right with the man, an ailment of a magical kind, after their run-in at Diagon Alley. But he hadn't suspected it was this serious. He quickly ran through all of the poisons he'd researched before.
...not possible. Or could it be? He'd have to be a powerful wizard, and an even more powerful potions-crafter, to keep *that* thing at bay.
Shaking these thoughts from his mind, Eoin strode over to where Curse was swaying with Eden in his arms. He met the man's eyes squarely, giving him a single, strong nod. Alex would be safe with him.
When Curse vanished, Eoin knelt beside the younger man. He knew healing of his own, and he added his own spells to that of Curse's. He could levitate his body, but that wouldn't work with a side-along apparation.
"Hang in there, Alex," he murmured as he bent to sling the man - as gently as possible - over his shoulder. He felt the warm stickyness of the man's blood seep into his cloak but ignored it as he twisted on his heel...
...and reappeared in the midst of St Mungos beside Curse. The man was swaying dangerously...hurriedly but gently, Eoin set Alex down on the ground and stepped behind Curse to catch the man as he started to fall backwards, still holding Eden.
Nurses and mediwizards had noticed the blood-soaked men appearing suddenly in the middle of the hall, and several approached at a run.
"What in Merlins..." seeing the wounded, the wizard's eyes widened, then he snapped to business. "Tabetha, we have an emergency on floor 2, get us three gurneys at once!"
Eoin shook his head. "I'm not injured. These two are." He quickly conjured a chair for Curse, then eased Eden out of his arms.
"On your feet Miss...sorry, I didn't catch your last name. Eden?" He could tell she was a tough button, handling all of the gruesome and the dark along with the three grown men. Giving her a quick squeeze on the shoulder, not wanting to seem condescending, he turned back to Curse.
"Can you hear me, Kameren? Curse?"

Everything was happening so fast and so wrong. Eden hadn't seen the conclusion, the result of this attack. All she had seen was the creature and she wished suddenly that she was stronger, that she knew how to enter her power and bring forth visions like Tor could. He would have known the result, could have seen multiple futures, know which path to take. She felt so helpless as she waited and then she remembered something and had to act. She didn't care that she could lose house points, nor did she think her actions would get her killed. She couldn't die, she would have foreseen that wouldn't she?
So she disobeyed orders and stared down death. Eden froze as the monster turned towards her, blood dripping from it's mouth. She could feel it's smile as it dreamed of feasting on her power. Seers were a rare treat, tasty, pity she was so tiny. Eden didn't stay frozen long. She grabbed a loose metal shingle from the roof, ready to use it as a knife when the auror began hitting the creature.
Then Curse ran towards it, knife in hand but it wasn't the creatures blood that split. What was the lunatic doing cutting himself! For a second Eden thought her professor had given up, thought his brother dead and thus wanted to end his own life. But then the creature died...poison?
Something wasn't write with her favorite teacher. Eden stared at her hero confusion evident in her young face. What did he have? How long did he have. Once the creature was dead, Eden climbed down from the roof, nearly tripping over her night gown on the way down. Luckily the others were occupied with the injured man on the ground, or they would have gotten a good show of her flowery underpants.
And you," His head moved with his eyes as they fell on Eden, the young Gryffindor who had completely disobeyed him. "Five points from Gryffindor. In this situation, you listen to me. I can't keep track of you if you're out in the open like that, and I can't protect you properly. You were lucky Eowin was able to distract it."
Eden froze, a foot away from Curse and his brother. Her back stiffened at the reprimand. No one had ever spoken so harsh to her before and it stung. She was trying to do the right thing and if it wasn't for her his brother would be dead. But her Professor was right. She'd put herself in danger but again she would have done it exactly the same. Eden took her punishment with a slight pout, her eye blinking as she fought back tears. She would not cry over five measly house points.
Eden allowed Curse to pick her up, this time he scooped her up under her knees and lower back. She wrapped one small arm around his thin back, resting her head on his chest. Blue eyes flicked upwards only to find him smiling at her. Eden grinned back.
"And, when you get back to Hogwarts, you can also tell your Head of House that I said fifty points for Gryffindor as well."
Eden's eyes widened and she stared at her Professor like a big fish. She had one 45 points for her house. Wow. Then they were gone and Eden became a bit dizzy forgetting to breath and all. Slightly dazed and tired she blinked rapidly at the bright lights of St. Mungos. Eden glanced around recognizing the floor, for she had been here loads of times.
Eden gasped as she began to fall backwards due to Curse's inability to stand straight. She whimpered as she was pulled from his grasp. She didn't want to leave him.
Back on the ground she glared mutinously at the auror that had pulled her away from Curse.
"On your feet Miss...sorry, I didn't catch your last name. Eden?"
The fact that he knew her name softened her a bit.
"Fletcher. Eden Fletcher. What's yours?" She asked, not having caught it in the mad rush to save Professor Kameren's brothers. Before the man could answer he turned away, focusing on the injured men. Eden followed him, standing just behind him as he addressed Curse.
"Is Professor Kameren going to die? Is that why your blood is pink?" She asked directing her finale question at her Professor. SHe didn't want to get attached if he was going to die. Too much pain.

The sterile white of St. Mungo's Hospital seemed to meld together, shifting in and out of focus in Curse's strained vision. The trip over had taken all he had left in him; the ex-auror was spent. Shortly after their arrival, Tynan appeared next to them with Alex.
The slight impact on the space around Tynan as he appeared out of the air sent Curse stumbling, the professor instinctively pulling Eden inward towards his chest so he would cushion her fall if he fell backwards. Tynan was behind him to lend support, however, and the professor glanced over his shoulder at the Head Auror in appreciation. "Thanks," He mumbled, then looked down to Eden, who was curled up against his chest, "ah-I need to s-set you down now, E-Eden," Curse's fatigue caused him to struggle with his words, his swaying motions unsafe for the first year to be in his arms.
The group was bombarded with medical workers as a sudden panic seemed to fall on the Mungo's staff, the nurses and doctors surprised by the sudden appearance of the bloody men and the small girl in their lobby. "What in Merlins..." Curse immediately recognized the doctor who approached them; he had lived at Mungo's for nine months after all, and had met most of the staff in his time there. "Tabetha, we have an emergency on floor 2, get us three gurneys at once!"
Eoin shook his head. "I'm not injured. These two are." He quickly conjured a chair for Curse, then eased Eden out of his arms.
"And I don't want a bloody gurney," Curse growled, falling backwards just as Eowin's chair appeared to catch him. He thankfully fell quite lightly, his thin but strong arms holding Eden just right so she wouldn't get any of the impact. As Eowin leaned in to take Eden from him, Curse locked eyes with the new Head Auror. "Check on Alex," He mumbled, his eyes darting in his brother's direction, "Make sure he's not unconscious. He has to stay awake, or he might slip away..." Curse's arms fell to his sides when Eden was freed, the Potions Master squeezing his eyes shut as a sudden noise started to buzz in his ears. It was like a static, or the buzzing of a million house flies; it was a side effect of the poison, which now running unchecked through his spent body. There were too many things for his body to maintain for now, so the potion went untreated.
"Nurse Tabitha!" The professor was unknowingly shouting, trying to make himself heard over the buzzing that existed only in his ears. "There is a list of potions and how to make them in my medical file. One of th-th-them is labeled 'white death antidote'. C-could somebody whip that up please?" The nurse nodded and turned swiftly away to do what the wizard said.
"Can you hear me, Kameren? Curse?"
"Y-yeah, I can hear you," Curse was still speaking loudly, his eyes still closed as shaking fingers pinched the bridge of his nose, "You're going to have to speak up though. I'll be fine, as long as I get some bloody potion in me soon and the chance to rest for a moment." His emerald eyes opened just in time to watch two doctors load his brother onto a gurney. There was another gurney sitting next to him. "No." He said simply, pushing the rolling hospital bed away. "If I'm going anywhere, I'm walking. Bloody gurneys..."
"Is Professor Kameren going to die? Is that why your blood is pink?"
Curse stopped what he was doing, steadying himself slightly so he could look at the young girl. He laid a hand on her head, using a last little scrap of his energy to send a shimmer through her, dissolving and fading the dirt and blood that coated the young Gryffindor. She reminded him of Max, looking up at him with those rounded eyes. She looked like Max did when he had told him of his impending condition: eight years. Merlin, he was only twenty-six and he had eight years to live.
"I'm not going to die right now," Curse said simply, smiling tiredly at the young girl through the pain in his head. That was all he could tell her, for now.

Elle had been about to leave for the night for much needed rest when she turned down the corner on the second floor and right into chaos. 'what in merlin.. She thought as she watched several gurneys flying past her in a frenzy. Quickly Elle disregarded her own exhaustion and entered the frey, pulling out her wand as she went. She spotted the ever familiar Curse Kameren falling into a chair, blood all over his clothes. Again she wondered what had happened. She stepped out of the way when Tabithia rushed past to mix the potion Curse demanded. The white of his hair made Elle queasy, obviously the poison was running unchecked through his veins. Elle quickly conjured a beezer stone that was often used to suck up posien, it would not sure who ever was infected but it would slow down the affects. While it barely worked in KAmeren's case it did help a bit and least until the potion was brewed.
Elle shouldered her way to the gruff man's side.
"Didn't you learn the first time, not to anger a dragon." She teased lightly as she handed several beezer stones to Curse.
"These should help the effects of the posin until the potion is finished." She said as she quickly scanned his injuries. The stupid man refused the gurney, as he pushed himself up. She could do nothing about that but she would stand behind him, ready to levitate him if needed.
"There is a room free at the end of the hall." She said to Kameren before telling a Nurse where she would be taking him. Elle waited as Curse explained to a small girl that he wasn't going to die yet. SHe wondered who the blond cherub was and why she was in a night gown of all things. Elle put a steadying hand on Curse as he magically cleaned the child up. While it was needed, Curse shouldn't have done it, but now was not the time for Elle to lecture the very tired and sick man. Instead she conjured up a blanket for the girl, handing it to her.
"He's got several years left to torment doctors, he does." Elle said lightly, trying to ease the girl's fears. She couldn't be older than eight or nine, poor kid. Was she curse's? Did he have a second child out of wed lock? She didn't look anything like a Kameren but that didn't mean a thing.
"Easy now kameren, slow steady steps. I'll be right beside you , so please don't crush me." Elle teased sa she gently tugged on the older man's arm.
