The Wizarding London Library. It was a beautiful sight, as old as London itself and kept looking so. Floating lamps lined the aisles, following behind patrons to the library if they needed them. The Lamps weren’t needed in the afternoon like it was, however, because the great cathedral-like windows that lined the walls lit the library. There were more books at the library than anyone could read; books lined every wall as high as the ceiling and endless aisles took up the space that wasn’t taken by study tables. Like most libraries, it was almost completely silent. The patrons of the library wouldn’t even have any idea that there was an argument going on in the back corner of the room.
"Daaaaad, we've been here nearly three hours..." Max snapped his book closed from where he was sitting under the great oak table in one of the aisles, leaning his head impatiently on Curse's knee.
Curse himself was on a chair at the table, surrounded by different books of curses and dark magic. He was reading something different, however; an archive of old Daily Prophet headlines, dating back over a century. "Max, I'm sorry but you're the one who insisted on coming back early from your mum's. If you need another book we can find one in a moment." Curse had endless patience for books and learning, studying being where he felt most at home. He needed things to learn about, things to research. With the return of his Mistress he needed to work quickly. The possibility of her coming back into power, regaining power over him, terrified him. It couldn't be an option. He couldn't let it happen.
He had forgotten, however, that 10-year-olds didn't share the same aptitude for studying. The young wizard huffed impatiently, leaning tiredly against his father's legs under the table as he whined. "Do you know where the quidditch section is, then? What are you even looking for?"
"In a moment..." Curse placated his son, his eyes sharp as he searched for the words on the page. Daniel Nienmorhai... Daniel....
"Dad. Dad. Dad come on--" Max got more impatient when he saw that look in his father eyes. He was too far into the pages, he couldn't hear. The boy's head turned, however, when he saw a different pair of legs from under the table. "Dad, someone else is here." He punched Curse in the leg, snapping the professor out of his studying trance with a rough bruise.
"Oi, Max--" Curse caught the boy's fist from under the table, sending him a glare before he noticed what Max was noticing. Recognition dawned in his sharp green eyes.
ooc: Curse couldn't find a sitter for this rp. lol

Well. Curse Kameren with a son. I never thought I’d see the day. Cain paused before he emerged from between the aisles. It suits him.
And indeed it did. The battered Kameren had seen a hard life, and it showed. But with the boy-- his eyes lit with a special light, and the years seemed to shed from his thin shoulders. Cain smiled and shifted the books in his arms. The librarians remembered him, and he’d brought along a selection of his own-- rarer books that the library didn’t have. They hadn’t been destroyed with his flat, he’d seen that they were kept safe and hidden with the best spells.
One could never be too prepared in his line of work. He approached the table.
"Dad, someone else is here."
“Yowtch. Fiesty kid ya got there.” He drawled, grinning at the older man.

SLAM!
A book hit the table, its noisy impact making everyone around it jump, startled.
"This one is my contribution," a dry, calm voice from beside Cain spoke in the resounding silence following the book's arrival. Echo was stylish in her black boots, jeans, and high-neck dark green sweater. A black leather glove covered her right hand, the metal band, reinforced by Arianna's magic (so Curse wouldn't be in danger from proximity) in its usual place around her gloved wrist.
Echo gave Curse a pleasant smile. "Thanks for inviting me, Kameren, it's good to get out of my dusty flat sometimes. So, all you told me in that owl was research about something to do with dark magic and history. That'll help." She nodded to the worn, tattered book, its cover read "Dark Curses: Antiquated, invented, and stolen spells by masters of the Dark Arts".
Her mismatched gaze, one golden eye and one moss-green eye, moved from Curse to the boy next to him, then to the man she was standing next to as she waited for Curse to introduce them.

Max twisted his wrist, struggling to get his fist free and knocking Curse's knee with his other hand. Curse reached down under the table and caught his other fist as well, feeling Max's small hands attempt to wriggle free. He was just antsy, Curse knew, and was trying to get out some energy by playing rough with his father. He was a boy, after all. They all played rough sometimes. "Max, quit--" The table shifted as Max tried to pull his hands away. Curse smirked, finally letting go when Max was pulling his hardest. Max tumbled backwards, his emerald eyes falling on their new visitor as he looked on with amusement.
The young wizard smiled. He recognized the blond wizard from his improvised visit to his hospital room a few months ago. "'Lo, Cain."
“Yowtch. Fiesty kid ya got there.”
"Can't imagine where that comes from," Curse said with a twinge of irony, sitting back to eye his son under the table. He supposed this was karma; he had given his mum a run for her money when he was a child, now it was his turn. Max seemed to run into trouble almost more than Curse did, however. Hopefully that wouldn't follow him into his more mature years. "How've you been, Cain?"
"Dad. Quidditch books." Max crawled out from under the table and straightened, pulling his father's sleeve for attention.
Before Curse could give Max a reply, a large book slamming on their table made everything jump. Curse had to scramble to make sure his own little collection didn't topple over, but he smiled when he met the mismatched eyes of his friend. "Hello, Echo."
"Thanks for inviting me, Kameren, it's good to get out of my dusty flat sometimes. So, all you told me in that owl was research about something to do with dark magic and history. That'll help."
Max's tone grew more desperate as he quested for Curse's attention. "Daaaaad. Please."
The professor's eyes darted around the aisles before he replied to his impatient son first. "Find Ms. Thatcher, the librarian. She can show you where there are quidditch books you'll like." Max smiled in agreement. Curse rustled the boy's hair before he was off down the aisle, towards the Librarian's desk.
"Now that he's taken care of for a bit," Curse straightened, pulling papers up from under the archives he was reading and placing them on top. "Echo, this is Cain Pierce. Cain, this is Echo Ashaelyr." He summoned two chairs for the witch and wizard, moving some of his books so he could properly collaborate with his friends.

"Can't imagine where that comes from,"
Cain tilted his head, a playful grin on his face. “Naaah. I can’t imagine either.” He teased, watching the kid as he bothered Curse about quidditch. “So what, did you name him after my dog, or what?” This was something Cain had missed, messing around, playing the clown of the group. He used to be the light of the party, jovial and good for a laugh. He rarely got that chance nowadays.
SLAM!
"Dark Curses: Antiquated, invented, and stolen spells by masters of the Dark Arts".
“Heavyweight, that one is.” Cain said, recovering from his startlement. He eyed the woman, noticing every detail, from her gold eye to her boots. Not purely as a subject of observation either, the woman was pretty, maybe even beautiful, though he knew most men would be put off by her direct, searching gaze. She seemed almost predatory. A hunter? But of what? Something dangerous, to be sure.
"Echo, this is Cain Pierce. Cain, this is Echo Ashaelyr."
Cain nodded to her, holding out his left hand to shake-- noticing the glove and silver on her right hand. “Did you know,” he said conversationally, as if they were already friends, “You can put binding spells on that glove, as well? Would help keep whatever you’ve got under there in more secure wraps.”

Echo's eyes focused on Cain's as she shook his hand with her infected one. "You don't miss much. Obviously Curse was right about you. I've tried some methods, but it doesn't like to stick to the leather, and other fabrics aren't tough enough for wear and tear in my job. Demon hunting. If you've got a way to make the spell stick, I'd like to hear it."
She sat on the seat Curse offered, leaning against the back as she scanned the book titles he had. From what she could guess, he was looking for something in the past, perhaps an event involving the dark arts.
"So, Curse, what's this all about? Why do you need a demon expert and a curse expert for your research?"

A slight smile traced Curse's lips as he watched his two friends interact. They got along, at least in a colleague way. He thought they would, especially with Cain's current moods after his release from the hospital. They would work well together; she was cursed, he was a cursebreaker. Unfortunately, curses weren't the subject of study for the afternoon.
"So, Curse, what's this all about? Why do you need a demon expert and a curse expert for your research?"
Curse looked up at Echo with a straight face. "Because I have absolutely no idea what I'm researching." It was true; he had thus far found nothing, and to be blunt he wasn't particularly confident in the library yielding any more results than he had himself. "When I was under her control, I learned something about the Dark Lady. I saw something in her mind. The only thing I could take from it, though, was a name. Daniel Nienmorhai." He shrugged. "And I haven't found anything else."
