ooc: Had no idea where to put this, but I figured it'd be fun to write. Ironically, I originally wrote Curse to be a potions master at Hogwarts. And now, five or six years after first writing him I'm actually applying for it! haha.
ic:
"K.C. Kameren," Curse held out his hand to shake, his crooked smile showing in a soft, friendly demeanor.
"Yes, we know who you are Dr. Kameren," the Deputy Headmaster (ooc: Head Mistress? I don't know, we don't have anyone in that position yet so I went with headmaster. I can edit it later) shook his hand. Curse nodded rather awkwardly, and the two sat in their respective chairs; the Deputy behind the Headmaster's desk, and Curse on the other side.
To anyone that saw Curse regularly, it was plain to see he had tried to clean himself up; He was clad in a dark pinstriped suit with a cut that somehow managed to make him look even skinnier than normal, a collared shirt and tie, and his had his glasses on. He had tried to comb his hair, but it didn't work out; he only seemed to change the position of where his hair stuck out. He had a bit of stubble on his face, almost long enough to call a beard, but there were lines in it from where his scars interfered with the growth. He still wore his black trainers, as they were literally all he had. "You're not applying for DADA, I see?"
"Well, No..." Curse's emerald eyes watched the Deputy closely, his emerald gaze unfaltering as he spoke, "As infamous as my auror background is, I have more experience in the area of Potions and Poisons. I've been published for inventing six different potions and poison antidotes. I was the Poisons specialist for Law Enforcement for five years, and I was deemed an official Potions Master by the Order of Merlin six years ago at Twenty, one of the youngest ever..."
"I can see that here..." the Deputy said. He kept cutting Curse off. What did that mean? Curse hadn't had a job interview in nine years, he had no idea what to expect. Curse wasn't used to being tested like this. "... Says here you've been teaching muggles for the last year?"
"Yes, I have a doctorate in Physics. I've been teaching at University of London."
"Jack-of-all-trades, aren't we..." The Deputy arched a brow as he turned the next page of Curse's resume. "Your Health records are slightly... questionable, Dr. Kameren..."
"Yes, I was institutionalized earlier this year. If you'll turn the page, you'll see I have a certificate of rehabilitation. I have passed every monthly mental health test since I was released from St. Mungo's." Curse knew that was going to hurt him. Parents didn't want their children being taught by a man with mental health records. He knew, he was a parent as well after all.
"How's that going for you? Your rehabilitation that is..."
"Is that relevant--"
"Yes."
Curse's brow furrowed, fairly sure he was on thin ice in this part of the interview. The one foreseeable reason why he wouldn't be hired would be his mental state. "...Some days are better than others. But I'm healthy."
The Deputy sat forward, his elbows on the desk with Curse's resume laid out in front of him. He met Curse's eyes. "What brings you to Hogwarts, Kameren? You've never expressed interest in teaching here before. You've been offered, and never accepted. Why now?"
The ex-auror stared back hard at the Deputy, his voice turning very serious. "Because it's safe here. A week ago, my Ministry files were released to the public. My history, my Ministry regulated health and blood records, my address, my known associates, everything. The Ministry is essentially forcing me to pick up and move. There are reasons that I need to have a solid, safe place--"
"Your son."
Curse paused, slightly taken aback by the Deputy's knowing response, "--yes. I have knowledge and ability that no other potions master you interview can match. I would teach students here better than any potions master has for centuries. All I ask is that my son and I are allowed to take up residence here. Max isn't old enough to attend the school for another year, so he can stay with me until then. That is all I need. I don't even require payment." His emerald eyes were unmoving, of the utmost seriousness. "Please."
The Deputy took in a breath, re-assembling Curse's resume and placing it in a drawer. "Thankyou, Dr. Kameren. That is all. We will contact you if you're hired or if we need a second interview."
Curse nodded, standing up from his chair. "Very well. Thank you." The Deputy opened the door of the Headmaster's office with a point, and Curse made his exit. He was uncertain about his interview, uncertain he would be hired.
Everything was uncertain now.
