Well, here she was.
That was the only sum of energy Emmi could trump up as she stood outside the Dragonfly Investigations office and stared up at the half hanging sign. The outside of her shop looked as if it had been the target of teenagers wild gallavanting but the lingering trace of menace assured her that kids had not done the damage.
Oh no. It could never be as simple as that.
Leaning down to pick up fallen slip of paper, the young woman stared at it a long moment before tucking it into her jacket front. A pensive frown took up residence on her delicate features even as she raised her wand and cast a repair spell on the cracked front windows. As the glass knitted together and took on a clear shine once more, she sighed and headed for the door.
A quick unlock spell and she was slipping into the quiet stillness of the office. She couldn't quiet hold her gasp of horror as she took in the inner sanctum. It was wrecked from one wall to the next. Files lay strewn about and the furniture was all over turned in what was obviously someones search of the place.
For a moment, it was all Emmi could do not to cry at the mess but then her firey temper reasserted itself. So... Someone wanted to play, did they? Well, they had messed with the wrong girl this time. Whoever had invaded her space was going to pay and pay dearly.
With that thought firmly in mind, Emmi sighed with resignation and dropped her bag by the overturned coat tree. There was work to be done and she was the only one to do it so she knew what her day would entail. Dust billowed up as she opened the owl cage and wrote a quick message to a friend before sending Opal off into the morning air.
Then, rolling up her sleeves, she got to work.
It took a few hours but by nightfall, most of the mess was cleaned up and the papers were all piled before her in a circle as she painstakingly tried to put the classified files back together. She was just blowing out a little sigh of relief that nothing seemed to be missing when the sound of her twinkling bell sounded a visitor and she glanced up with a smile.
