Reckony knew the room. He knew the bare walls that defined it.
He knew the two-way mirror that revealed only his scruffy reflection. He knew the cool, hard table that marked easily with his fingertips. He knew the chairs. He knew the way the chairs made his butt feel.
There was nothing that Reckony particularly liked about the room. There was no particular reason that Reckony felt necessitated his being there.
For all of this, plus his arrest a few years prior, Reckony Pike hated law enforcement. If Eoin Tynan wanted to talk, he should have come to Pike's bar. The audacity to have him waiting - like a suspect - in Interview Room #3...The auror would find little cooperation.
Pike slammed his palm against the table and kicked at the chair across from him.
Sure. He wanted some information on the goings on of Godric's Hollow and Scotland. Sure he did. It was a swift kick in the nano bits that he was sitting in the hot seat. Ralin and Curse were lying in their comas, Alex was having his veins boiled and Max was wondering if he had a father. ALL THE WHILE Jack Harkness and his demon-loving family played vacation house at St. Mungos.
Really. So much for your equal class, Harkness. Always undercutting the underdog, thinking yourself one of the people and then screwing them over your very next breath.
Reckony squinted, his ire growing. He hated that family so much. He hated the Ministry. He despised this department. He wanted out.
His body stiffened as the door suddenly opened.

"Hello Pike," the man said as he entered, letting the door shut silently behind him. His piercing blue eyes crossed the distance to the bartender before his feet did, scrutinizing Pike before he said anything more. There was no judgement in his eyes, only an openness to discovery.
"I'm Eoin Tynan, Head Auror." The slap of parchment against the table wasn't loud, but still it rang out in the small, empty room. "I'd offer my hand to shake but judging from your expression you'd probably punch me instead." Eoin sat down across from Reckony, his face unsmiling but relaxed.
"You're not here because you're a criminal, Pike. Honestly, I'd rather ask you questions at your pub. I hear the scotch is spot on. But with a mess that goes as high as this one does, I have to do everything through the completely legal channels. No room for casual investigation."
Tynan didn't need to go through Pike's files. He'd read them thoroughly before asking that they bring Reckony in for questioning. He should've emphasized to the boys that they should ask rather than arrest. Reckony wasn't on trial. In fact, Eoin wasn't sure who should be in that particular hotseat yet.
He wondered how Reckony would react to the younger man introducing himself as Head Auror. Real criminals interrogated by him were first dismissive or outright amused. They thought him a pushover. Eoin had a calm, more quiet way of interrogating, but in the end they all talked.
"Right now I'm just collecting statements and intel." Eoin said, leaning forward with his forearms resting on the unopened file. Putting himself within reach of the man. It was a subtle gesture of trust, subconsciously informing the other man that he didn't think him a criminal.
"So, starting with Mosrael's attack on Hogsmeade, can you tell me what happened? Here's what I have so far." I know she appeared in the early morning, stopped into Breandan's apothecary on the edge of town, and then started marking houses and generally destroying things. A metallic dark magic construct named Krellith assisted her. Maebh Breandan was gravely injured during the battle, and Mosrael left soon after."
The chestnut-haired man waved a hand in Reckony's direction. "Well, it's pointless for me to tell you what happened. You were there. So now's your chance to tell me your side of things, if you don't mind."

Reckony broke out in to a dangerous laugh, his distrust of the Ministry emerging in tears of anger-tinged mirth. He rubbed a calloused hand over his face and cared little of the Auror's observation of his reaction. The Ministry deserved what little value he gave them, if any.
"No room for casual investigation, hey? That's...that's brilliant." Pike hooted at the statement, finding it hard to believe he was hearing this. Was Tynan actually serious? "Your investigation has been so casual to date I think it rather non-existent. No offence, but let's be honest. Hogsmeade was attacked. Not once but twice. The second time, twenty-two people died, including my full-time server who had just invited me to her wedding. I almost lost Maebh Breandan. No one from the Ministry dared show their face. We fought it alone. We rebuilt the village alone. People lost their livelihoods. Did you send reinforcements thereafter? Investigators? Of course not. At least, not until it was too late. We were alone."
Pike stared coldly in to Tynan's eyes, daring him to speak.
"Now we jump to Godric's Hollow. The Ministry hates Curse Kameren, we all know this. The Ministry hates him because he represents everything that's missing from their ranks: the experience, the intuition, the courage...the intelligence. Kameren's a dangerous bet to you but he's exactly what you need. You're just too stupid to realize it. You'd rather see him fail than ask for his help and that attitude almost cost him his son. You weren't doing anything on this case and all the while Mosrael grew stronger. More strategic. While Kameren was at St. Mungos she planned her next step and shortly after his return home, Max Kameren and Ralin O'Faerlun became victims of her plan. Again, the Ministry was absent. The Daily Prophet showed up before you did. Tell me, do you actually hire law enforcers in this Department?"
Reckony sat back in the chair, feeling comfortable with his hand. The Auror Tynan had little choice but to listen.
"You know, I understand why you've been so negligent in your duties. I get it. I know where the power lies and it's not with you, Head Auror, or your Department Head. This goes much, much higher. Perhaps you are a victim of this misuse of power too, but unless you act on it, you are just as guilty as he. I understand I am not a suspect. I know you get that much. I also know that you are aware of whom the guilty party actually is. You have me here because you want to figure out just how much I understand what's going on and from there you will decide what is necessary to quell the truth. I cannot be bought, Tynan. I know everything. And I will not rest until Jack Harkness and his supporters are brought to justice before the people of Britain. DO YOUR JOB. Arrest the Minister of Magic and have him answer for his crimes. I'll give you the names and I'll give you the evidence. Earn that cushy title of yours before more innocents die."
