A few leagues beyond the shrieking shack, around the slab of sun-stone with a small turn to the left, and just beyond the end of a roughly strewn gravel path stood modest two story building. It was hidden among a few wild ferns and the ever-present lavender leaved willows that frequented the area.
If you knew where you were going, and knew exactly what you were looking for, you would find this small shoppe and the wild-eyed tenant who ran it. The IronThorn Lotus would still be considered one of those few places that liked to stay just a little hidden from the world, though it more than enjoyed visitors.
Today was one of those days when a visitor would be more than welcome. The shoppe was lazy, the windows open, and the smell of Chai wafted about like a mischievous child. The owner of this small shoppe flitted around behind her counters, chopping vegetables for the Soup Of The Day, and making sure that there was a small pinch of something-or-another in each pot of tea that she had begun brewing a few moments earlier.
The shoppe was clean, the newly cut and stained counters bright with new polish, and the walls hung with a few more mysterious collectables that the owner has discovered amongst her travels. Each four person table had it's own theme, from blue Tibetan silk with silver stars to Russian wool in garnet with gold stitched accents, each spot had a story to tell and was a character in an otherwise empty room.
The owner whipped around a counter and ran to a wall display, and ran her fingers along the catch in the side to open the glass. She tapped her finger along her lips as she looked for the right place to add the brother or sister coin to her world collection. Her ears flipped up as she saw the rampant eagle that she had been looking for, and her tail wagged as she placed the small silver coin into it's delegated spot. She closed the glass with a small snap, and smiled as she took a step back to look at her handiwork.
With a small sigh Kitt looked about her small business and felt a sense of happiness fall through her. She walked back to her cauldron, ladled out a small portion of soup for herself and found herself a seat.
Kicking her feet up, she waited to see if there would be any visitors today; and she waited, dearly, to see if she could brew up some mischief.

Boots landed out on the path, crunching into the gravel. Nuriko swung her broom over a shoulder, approaching the shop with a bounce in her step. Bounding up the stairs, she thrust open the door and entered with as much pizazz as possible.
"'Elloooooooooooooooooooooooooo?" She peered around the shop. It certainly was a cheery place. She took comfort in the familiar surroundings. At least one place hadn't been touched by war. She held up a bag enticingly.
"I have aaaaaaaaaaaaaapppppllesss." She called out in a sing-song voice, teasing her friend. "KITT!! APPLES!"

The first bite of soup was enough to dull the senses and entice you into a world of veggie-wonder, but nothing would distract Kitt from the sound of boots on a path that led straight for her Tea Shoppe.
Her ears flipped up as she tried to identify the visitor before they announced themselves. She caught a swing in the person's step, so it was easy to assume that the person had been here before - or knew of her antics. Kitt tilted her head up and though for a moment, trying to think of the kinetics of how people walked, and she found herself thinking about hips, and wasn't it odd that Humans got along without Tails to balance with?
That's when several things happened at once. The door to her shoppe swung open and lilted on it's hinges; the bell right under the frame giggling as it swung, "Visitor!" it chimed.
A fresh breath of air heralded a sunny "Ellooooooooooooooooo?!" Kitt flipped her tail up in recognition and a smile blossomed over her features as Nuri sauntered in with a cheerful "I haaaaaaave Aaaaappleessss!!"
A laugh escaped Kitt as she stood, quick stepping to her friend whom she hadn't seen in a while. "Nuri!! It's been forever! How are things faring with everyone Topside?" She motioned for her friend to enter and rest where she pleased, peering into the bag that grabbed her attention and made her mouth water.
"Apples you say?"

"I do say!" Nuriko said cheekily, grinning up at the woman who towered over her by a good foot. "Lands sakes, did you grow another foot or so?" She teased her friend, leaning her broom against a convenient table. The beater slung her arm around the kitsune's shoulders, carelessly leaning her weight on her friend as Kitt investigated the apples.
"Nice place you have here, Kitt. Very cozy. Is that really what I think it is?"
Her nose turned up appreciably as she failed to wait for a reply. "I smell stew. And chocolate." She grinned cheekily at Kitt, her face turning into an approximation of Kitt's own, unfortunately without the ears.

Kitt laughed, she had so missed her friends over the past hibernation. She had missed Nuri's smile and jovial sense of humor. It had been a long time since she had anyone had been to the store this week.
"Land sakes! Have your grown another foot or so?!"
Nuri's laughter sent Kitt's stomach into knots, she grinned broadly, matching her friends smile.
When Nuri's nose caught the smell of food, drink, and treat, Kitt sent out a small "woof" of delight. She raced back to her counter, ladled up some stew, and brought a rather shiny kettle to the table nearest Nuri. With a twirl she was back behind her counter, shuffling around on the shelves, and she found a small cake of Honeydukes chocolate.
Kitt broke off a piece as she walked back to the table. Her tail flipped high as she savored the smooth flavor.
"It has been a while, hasn't it? How is everything going? I see that you're a Beater now, how's the game? How's Ralin? It's been forever since I've seen him." Kitt spoke as she slid into a chair.

“Well, he’s teaching flying class now.” Nuri said, her stomach rumbling as the food approached. “You know, I haven’t eaten since breakfast…” and it was currently mid-afternoon. The stew smelled amazing. She toyed with her spoon, waiting until Kitt slid into a chair next to her.
“Mm.” She grinned, downing the stew with appreciation. Everything was just right— the vegetables were just crisp enough, the meat was tender, and the sauce tasted amazing. She wrapped her fingers around a cup of tea and sat back, stomach pleasantly full.
“What are you up to, Missy?” She teased.

(OOC: Woo! I'm feeling the writing juice flowing again!!)
Kitt smiled as Nuri spoke of the people that she still remembered, and she found herself scrutinizing the patterns on one of her teapots - a rather floral pattern which drew the eyes around to the stem which, admittedly, was the highlight of the teapot itself - when a question was posed to herself.
"What are you up to Missy?" Nuri's jovial tone shook a small grin out of Kitt, but even as it appeared, it slipped from her face and she revealed a rare moment of - what? It couldn't be sadness, for Kitt hardly had anything to be sad about; but something in the way that her eyes met Nuri's brought to light that all beasts had hearts.
What had she been doing all this time?
Sleeping was a mild term, for hibernation sent one into a deep slumber that is only cured by a strong sense of self. Many of her kind had simply faded into nothing, the lure of timeless sleep taking over their minds and bodies to the point where returning to the present in and of itself was a dangerous feat. She sighed. Had she been wasting her time in slumber? How would the world have spun if she had stayed to witness the horrors that she, only now, was becoming aware of? -- But maybe that was just it. Kitt was relatively unchanged since she had last lived and maybe, just maybe, that was the point of it all.
"Honestly, Nuri, I think that slumber took me away from the people that needed me the most. I feel as if I have abandoned Ralin, for I was there the night that he found himself no longer himself - and it's a blur to my mind now, tainted by the Slumber."
A small smile lifted her lips, but her ears betrayed her small pang of despair, or was it loss?
"Y'know I almost fancied myself in-love once. A thief, no joke. Back when Curse was roaming the streets as a High Auror. Isn't it sad that all of that seems like a dream now?"
Kitt laughed, her ears flipping up at her emotions. She snagged an apple and bit into the red flesh, relishing the flavor and crisp texture.
"I am glad to have my little shop now, though. It has been a while since I've had a spot on the map, and having customers - even ones that I don't sit and talk to - is better than living my life on the sidelines."
That was more of an accurate statement than Kitt wanted to admit. She swallowed, and as the fruit slipped into her belly she found herself longing for something, but what? What was it that was hinted on her periferials that she so longed for? What was it that drove her to seek slumber even as it drove her to wake?
Time would tell. It always did.
