2023
The day was warm, spring had definitely arrived and the sun shone down with a warm benevolence as Alex placed the last rail. He straightened, wiping sweat from his face with the back of one hand. It had taken him some time, but the fields on the Estate were starting to look up. Maintenance had been let go in the decade and a half since it had been occupied, but now the manor had a resident once again, and he would not let the place go to waste. It was perhaps tainted by the bad memories here, but there had been good times as well. He would not throw away his heritage because of Cedric Kameren. He would build. He would improve instead of destroy, create a new family legacy.
The world moved and the wheel turned.
Alex pursed his lips and blew a shrill whistle, calling Rasp to him. The dog loved his new land, roving far and wide over the fields and distances denied him in the cramping of the city. Alex headed up towards the stable along the fenceline, quickly joined by Rasputin, barking and darting back and forth.
Rumbling brought his attention to the long road that led to the Estate, dragging itself and a trailer up the road was an ancient, dilapidated truck, held together with spellotape and spells. The truck sputtered to a stop beside the stable and Alex helped the driver unload a pair of horses. He was soon left standing in the yard with the animals as the truck grumbled back down the road.

24 hours in to her 72 hours of off time, and Elle Callahan was well rested. She'd practically been comatose for most of the last day. It had been a very busy week at St. Mungo's it being Dragon Pox season and all. Secretly, Elle thought that people just got stupid when the weather turned, good or bad. Over the last couple of weeks she saw an increase in injuries caused by animals, building projects or something sun related. People became reckless at the first sign of lasting sunshine, attacking the outdoors as if good weather would never come again. Well she couldn't fault them. It was pretty and enticing. There was something about green grass and heat that made the blood sing.
So, Elle found herself wondering outside on her day off, ignoring the thousand little chores she could be doing. Instead, she'd hit up the house elf glee on Alex's whereabouts, coaxed a meal and basket and headed outside. The little happy creature had mentioned something about Alex fixing fences by the stables. Elle wasn't sure if she should bring her medical kit or not. Over the last couple of months, Alex Kameren had decided to fix up the crumbling estate. Not that it was terribly bad before, just sad looking. Elle still couldn't believe that she was still living at the Estate. It been nearly six months since Alex took her there out of sight of her stalker. He'd said she could stay as long as she wanted and well she never left. The house, rather manor, was big enough to house several families without them ever coming into contact of each other. Thing was, their schedules were often at odds and they could go for sometime without seeing each other. It was a nice arrangement, especially since he might be the love of her life. Except that she wasn't sure if Alex knew that. Or if she was his. Things were odd between her and Alex. They weren't dating but neither were they just roommates. There was a sizzle between them sometimes. That December, Alex had actually kissed her. Toe curling, stomach flopping kiss. They even shared a few since then but things were slow. It was best to ease Alex Kameren into new territory carefully. She didn't want to scare him off.
Humming, Elle made her way towards the stables, her white sundress floating about her. Her eyebrows raised when she spotted Alex standing near the road with a pair of horses. He really was getting into the spirit of country living. Did he even know what to feed the creatures? Elle sped up, excited to see the horses. It had been many years since she had ridden.
"Planning on becoming a gentleman farmer, Kameren?" She teased gently as she stepped up to the horses, reaching out a hand for them to sniff.
