The mid-morning sun glared somewhat harshly through the Fifth Floor windows, into an airy, meticulous classroom. Under a high ceiling (perfect for practicing levitation spells), two groups of desks faced a center aisle. They were spaced fairly far apart, to ensure that wand-swinging would not result in students putting each others' eyes out.
Not that the teacher intended for people to be flailing their wands about, anyways. She ran a class, not a circus.
At the head of the room, slightly offset from the aisle, Professor Forrester clasped her hands over her podium, observing the students shuffling in. Many of them seemed bleary-eyed, as though they weren't quite used to being up so early in the day. Secretly, she felt their pain, though she made certain her composure said otherwise. After all, if the teacher looked tired, what was to stop the pupils from falling asleep themselves?
"Please take your seats," she called out to the shuffling mass of students. "Sit where you like, I'll rearrange you later if I have to." The unspoken message, Don't make me 'have to', lingered ominously under a faint smile. "Come on, the sooner we get settled in, the sooner the fun begins."

Nuriko took a class near to the middle on the last column on the left. She faced the aisle, settling into her seat and doing all the things a girl is wont to. She set out her notebook (already replacing clumsy scrolls in America), quills (so out of fashion, but so much fun!),even her wand lined up next to the rest. Just then Professor Forrester called them to attention.
The cheery American swiveled in her seat, facing the teacher. She couldn't resist growing her hair just a little like Forrester's, the faintest hint of blond peeked through the blue. She grinned, ready to focus on the lesson.

Sienna had been talking to her seatmate animatedly about the new stage set of 'Wonder World' (the new hit wizarding radio show for tweens), when the other students came in. They all looked bleary eyed and tired, and Sienna wondered what they had been up to. After all, it was the first weeks of class.
Next to her was a 6th year, holding one of those newfangled notebooks. Sienna sniffed a little, stroking her own pieces of parchment -- they were bought in France, during one of her mother's frequent shopping trips when Sienna hadn't yet decided whether she would go to Beauxbatons or Hogwarts.
She noted, belatedly, that the girl's hair was blue -- wasn't dyeing hair against school rules?! Sienna had to check that out. It could come in useful in one of her future pranks... provided she wasn't interrupted again like the last time. That girl Eden... Sienna glowered. She had better not be in this class.
"...the sooner the fun begins."
The teacher ended her recitation, and Sienna nodded. She adored fun!

The Professor gazed around the room, waiting as the murmurs and shuffles died down. "Good. Now, for those of you who are new, welcome to Charms. I met you the first night in, but in case you were distracted at the time, I'm Professor Forrester." She had been focusing her attention on the first-years scattered throughout the room; now, she glanced at the others, mostly sixth-years, seated amongst them. "Those of you who're returning may find this arrangement a little odd. Well, to answer, no, it's not a scheduling mistake. We're gonna try something new this year." Even as she said it, Gail was acutely aware of how strange it was. In a centuries-old castle teaching an even older curriculum, that sort of thing was rather rare. Then again, after all those hundreds of years, something interesting was bound to happen. "This mixed-class should be quite a benefit for all of you. First years, you can each get your own older student to help you. Charms can be tricky at first, so I hope you take good advantage of this." Once again, she shifted her gaze toward the non-First years. "Tutoring should refresh your memory of what I've already taught you. Most of you are taking the NEWTs in a year or two; some of you are taking the OWLs. I may be lenient if you've forgotten something, but they expect you to remember everything." After allowing that to sink in for a moment, she nodded. "Alright, let's get started." Pulling out her wand, she pointed it at the chalkboard. By now, she'd done the spell so many times that she barely had to think about it; the tip of her wand glowed faintly, and as she flicked it about, words appeared on the board: Wingardium leviosa Once the incantation had appeared, she turned back to the class. "We'll start off with an old favorite. First years, feel free to find yourself a partner. We'll practice the incantation first: win-GAR-dium levi-O-sa. Pronunciation is extremely important; before you try to cast any spell, be absolutely sure you can say it right, or you could end up at St. Mungo's. Older students, make sure your first years are doing it right." With that, she leaned forward on her podium, watching her class carefully to make sure all was going well--and that no wands were being taken out yet. The last thing she wanted was some over-enthusiastic eleven-year-old to set the room on fire; those sorts of mistakes lost their humor after the eightieth accident.

It had to be a mistake. Surely the Headmaster wouldn't condone such a thing. How in the world was he supposed to learn advanced magic with little kids who could barely hold a wand properly? Emery Fletcher had laughed at his little sister when she excitedly exclaimed that they had a class together. It was preposterous! He loved Eden very much but being in a class with her? It was her first year and she hadn't taken well to his attempts at teaching her some things before school began.
Stomach in knots, and feeling as if he were in a dream, Emery slowly and quietly made his way into class. He paused at the edge of the room, barely out of the door way when he spotted a silly little girl next to his friend Nuri. This was going to be a nightmare.
Emery unfroze himself and quickly took a seat as far away from the little monsters as possible. He was a serious student and did not want to deal with their silly questions and insolent chatter.
Just when Emery thought this arrangement couldn't get worse it did. Not only were the older students forced to pair up with a first year but they would have to teach them the simplest spell in the book. He knew that the first lesson would of course be a review but this far back? Hell, if he tired hard enough Emery could probably do the spell wandless, not that he dare voice his thoughts or even attempt such a thing.
Emery groaned as the class broke up into pairs, he was half expecting his sister to claim him, but she never came. Frowning, Emery realized that Eden wasn't in class...but she should have been since their were other first year gryffindors in attendance. Emery glanced around and noticed that the girl next to Nuri was a Gryffindor, barely taller than Eden he assumed they were bunk mates.
Emery got up and walked over to them. "Excuse me, do you happen to know Eden Fletcher? She's supposed to be here..."
