It was just a typical weekend, well one of the typical ones for when Kassie went to hogsmeade. She walked down the path that lead into the small village that laid outside the school. She was going to pay a visit to the sweetshop. Kassie had loved sweets ever since she was little but then again there weren't many who didn't love sweets. But she was probably one of those who loved them more than most.
Kassie strolled down the street wearing clothes that were in her normal apparel. Clothes she didn't and probably couldn't wear during her job cause it would seem inappropriate to some. She was wearing a broderie trim corset top, a fifteen inch fold-over waist tiered skirt with sequin accent, red and black striped knee high socks and a pair of lace up knee high boots.
Her hair was hanging, with her bangs pinned back with two silver clips with white skulls on them, she also accessorized with her normal bat cuff bracelet, and her rose and vine ring. Walking into the sweet shop she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear with her dark purple painted nail. The shop wasn't overly crowded but that would change soon as she had left the castle earlier than the student would for their visit to the village.
Slowly she began browsing the shelves, her brown eyes that were framed with dark lashes that were covered with mascara and a small amount of eyeliner with some purple eyeshadow, to see what she would buy this time around. Today was the perfect day for a stroll through Hogsmeade. Feeling cooped up in his office, Jaxon had prowled the corridors for a quarter of an hour, just narrowly dodging Peeves (who was probably off to cause trouble). Still feeling trapped, the professor slipped outside and took off at a brisk pace down the path to the village. The little town wasn't very full, but it was early yet -- he was sure that with time, the vacant areas would be filled.
Honeydukes was right around the corner, and Jaxon chanced a glance through the storefront window. His mouth watered at the thought of a Chocolate Frog or two and he pulled open the glass door to admit himself. The warm sugary aroma hit him and he began to look around for what would satisfy his sweet tooth, waving a hello to the clerk. His hazel eyes fell upon the rather-colorful display in the back and he walked over to take a closer look. Perusing through the vibrant display of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans (which he detested) and Jelly Slugs, he found a plethora of Chocolate Frogs, Toothflossing Stringmints, and Sugar Quills. Taking a few of each, he placed them on the counter, pulling a few coins out of his pocket to pay for them.
Placing the sweets in the pocket of his grey hooded sweatshirt, he turned around to make for the door, his old beat-up Converse scuffling on the wooden floor. A sound in the corner of the shop stopped him. He hadn't been aware that someone else was here. Standing at only 5'7", he couldn't well see over the shelves, so walking around was in his best interests. Her apparel definitely caught his attention; it was something that wasn't seen often around the area. Jaxon thought it looked out of place here, as much as a robe would look out of place in the Muggle world. There wasn't much he could say about the situation. His clothing didn't exactly fit in either -- a snug black t-shirt covered by a light grey hoodie, his most comfortable pair of faded denim jeans, and a ratty pair of Converse.
That wasn't the most odd thing about the woman though. Taking a glimpse at her face, he realized that he knew her. She was part of the Hogwarts staff, he knew that for certain, since he had seen her at the feast. Perhaps she was the Astronomy teacher. Jaxon wasn't quite sure if she was new to Hogwarts or not, seeing as he hardly ventured from his office. Either way, it would be courteous of him to introduce himself... shy or not.
"Hello there, miss," he said, taking a step forward. "I am Jaxon Pietri, Head of Hufflepuff House and Care of Magical Creatures professor. I believe I've seen you around Hogwarts. Forgive me if I should know you, but I can't place your name to your face." A tad nervous, he gave her a twisted, lopsided smile. It was warming but it was easy to tell that he wasn't much of a people person.

Kassie was now standing before some of Honeydukes select fudges and chocolates examining some white fudge as she played absentminded with a strand of her black hair. She was holding the fudge preparing to continue looking for something else to add to her small sweet collection that would hold till the next time she made it to the village when she heard someone speak behind her.
Turning Kassie noticed a male, she instantly recognized him from Hogwarts, as a fellow staff member although usually good with names she failed to recall him, all she knew was he was the care of magical creatures professor. Once he introduced hisself she made a mental note of his name so as not to forget it again,
"Oh, Hi. I'm Kassie Bently...I teach Astronomy. Nice to meet you. Mister Jaxon Pietri, Head of Hufflepuff House and Care of Magical Creatures professor"
She said with a friendly smile that had a bit of a smirk in it as well, as she tucked her hair behind her pierced ears. WORDCOUNT:: 174THEOUTFIT:: click here!TAGGEDFOR:: jaxon, openWRITERSCOMMENT:: anyone can join this thread

Kassie Bently. The name sounded slightly familiar, so perhaps he had heard it before. If he had, it was likely that he'd forgotten it. The Dark Magic injury he had sustained two years ago caused his brain to work on its own terms. Memorizing names was difficult for him unless he repeated them in his mind a bunch of times, but that was nothing compared to what else he had lost. His ability to do magic was severely diminished, makin geven the most simple spells to be painful. No one would ever catch Jaxon looking down on anyone else. As a Muggle-born and 'nearly a Squib, he was at the bottom of the barrel to most, if not lower.
Turning his attention back to his aquaintance, he caught her saying that she was the Astronomy professor. At least his classroom was close to the ground; lugging his junk all the way up the Tower staircase would have been awful. But, he thought, at least she can use magic.
"Looks like you have a pretty strong sweet tooth as well," Jaxon said, glancing to the sweets she held in her hands. "I'm particularly happy that I came to Hogsmeade today, on a day when I have no classes. My candy intake is directly linked to my moodiness." A little crack had appeared in his armor of shyness and a taste of his joking demeanor had slipped through. It was not something he insisted stay quiet; on the contrary, he didn't mind. Humor took his mind off of the nervous tension he felt. His accent was something else that he focused on to keep his train of thought. You asked for this, Jax. You willingly went to her and began a conversation, he said to himself.

Kassie smiled as she looked at the fudge and few other sweets in her hand that she had collected, yeah she did have a sweet tooth. Thank god she never hardly gained weight cause she was sure if she did with all the candy she ate, she'd be a lot bigger than she was.
"Oh yes, major sweet tooth, its never satisfied. Always wants candy of some sort or some kind of dessert."
She said with a small laugh as scratched her arm absentminded as she examined the ice mice and picked up a few.
"Well chocolate is one of the best comfort foods out there, chocolate and ice cream. Is for us girls anyways, Not sure what the guys would see as comfort food. I've only got classes at midnight twice a week during the week. I guess to some I've got an easy job but some people find Astronomy boring."
She spoke in and off handed manner as she looked at him, the normal glint of happiness and mischief in her eyes as usual. WORDCOUNT:: 176THEOUTFIT:: click here!TAGGEDFOR:: jaxon, openWRITERSCOMMENT:: anyone can join this thread

His twisted half-smile flitted across his face as she spoke. It was true, what she had said about the comfort food. The sugar calmed his nerves in a way. They were pretty much frayed most of the time as it was -- he could use a little pick-me-up every so often. Jaxon took her male comfort food conversation as completely rhetorical and refrained from saying anything. He wasn't sure of what he would have said anyway, so it was best for him to keep his trap shut before he stuttered.
For a moment, he wondered what she did on the nights she wasn't teaching. Probably the same things he did when he wasn't teaching: reading, fixing lesson plans, taking a few trips to Hogsmeade. It seemed inappropriate for him to ask. Just the way it was worded would sound like an invitation to a date and it was not. "Not to offend you, but I'd like to have a job like yours. Watching the planets and noting their path across the sky sounds better than wrestling with thestral foals and keeping the hippocampi and tadfoals healthy, not to mention placating the centaurs. It gets rough."
His right sleeve was pulled up just a little, exposing the severe bitemark left by a thestral. Noticing this, he yanked it down, concealing the white half-moon. The rest continued around the other side of his wrist but Jaxon hoped that was hidden.

Kassie crossed her arms lightly across her chest as she stood their conversing with Jaxon. She continued to browse the sweets, keeping most of her attention on him as she looked at the bertie botts every flavored beans but quickly turned her nose up to them. She had quit eating those the day she popped to in her mouth at once and got earwax and vomit at the same time.
"Oh, none taken. Its not often people find the subject fascinating or want to do the subject willingly... But on the contrary I wouldn't mind your job either. It sounds interesting. Threstrals however I'd pass on, Not been to found of the invisible beast since I started seeing them."
She said the smile fading to just a crooked half smile. But quickly flicking back to a full smile to hide the fact the thought of threstrals made her think of her deceased twin sister. WORDCOUNT:: 154THEOUTFIT:: click here!TAGGEDFOR:: jaxon, openWRITERSCOMMENT:: anyone can join this thread

Kassie glanced down at the Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans and Jaxon felt a smirk tugging at his lips as she noticibly lifted her nose at them. Apparently, she was as fond of the surprise flavors as he was; in other words, not at all. If the nasty-tasting beans were cast out of the bag, he would consider trying them again. It simply wasn't worth the money to buy a bag and pick out the ones he detested.
Hearing her comment about the thestrals, his eyebrows furrowed in concern. Death had come to him in the form of a very good friend, and it was something he hated to even think about. His hazel eyes met her brown ones, conveying a clear message of I know exactly how you feel. This wasn't the way he wanted this conversation to go and he quickly turned it around. "If you've gotten everything you need, I'd be glad to accompany you to the castle. I do have to stop by Eeylops Owl Emporium for some feed and treats, that is, if you're interested in an aquaintance. The Hogwarts owls always love attention, and I'm the guy to give it."
As the Care of Magical Creatures professor, it was in his job title to feed the owls committed to Hogwarts. Those that were not pets and were used by students not fortunate enough to have one of their own were used as objects, not treated like animals. Jaxon was determined to change that, and when he saw students in the Owlery, he would explain to them the needs of the lonely owls. Most times, the message got through plain as day.

Kassie turned away from the beans of many flavors and looked at him making sure she had what she came for she nodded,
"Um, Yeah, that'd be great."
She said with a smile coming back to her lips as she reached the counter she laid her selections on it and pulled the money from her shoulder bag as the clerk gave her the total.
Slapping the money on the counter she slid it to the clerk and grabbed her now bagged sweets and said,
"You can keep the change."
Kassie turned to Jaxon and spoke, to him as he spoke of the School Owls in the owlery. Yes it was unfortunate they didn't have their own owners to love and care for them.
"Yes, its a shame they don't have their own owners and people tend to look at them as messengers and not animals with feelings."

Her response to the owls made him instantly warm to her. It wasn't well-known, but Jaxon judged people on the way they treated animals. Keeping animals from harm was one of his goals but with others, it wasn't so. Over the years, he had found that if this vital connection was not shared between himself and an aquaintance, they weren't acquaintances for much longer. Kassie seemed bubbly and outgoing, to say the least. Almost his polar opposite. Perhaps he could manage a friendship with her, and if he could, perhaps he could start other relationships with his fellow professors as well. It was always worth a try.
Jaxon pushed the glass door open, holding it behind him for Kassie. Eeylops was not too far away but the November wind had an edge to it as if to warn of a cold winter to come. Since he had entered the sweetshop, the plaza had filled quite a bit. Everyone was rushing about, trying to reach the warmth of the shop they were looking for.
Passing the shops lining the cobbled street, Eeylops finally came into view. Pausing for a second, Jaxon looked over his shoulder to see if Kassie was keeping up.

Kassie loved animals. She always had. Partly because that's just the type of person she was and partly because she turned into one whenever she felt like it. She smiled and spoke a soft thanks as he held the door open and she headed into the cobble stone street to their, well more over his next destination. Owls seemed finicky of her. Most smaller animals did.
She figured it was because of her furry half due to her wold animagus form. She wasn't sure though, But before she had become an animagus Owls never seemed to shy away from her. As they reached eeylops she followed him into the store and looked around. It seem to thrive with its own energy, Much like the street outside did when packed full of people.

Usually, when Jaxon entered the small shop, the owls flocked to him. For some reason, they seemed to know that he meant them no harm and would peck at their cages, hooting softly. An elf owl perched on the clerk's desk, Piedgian, was his favorite. Being the blonde clerk's pet, it was allowed free reign of the shop so long as it didn't bother customers. Most days, Piedgian would fly to him and perch on his shoulder. Kassie's entrance seemed to change the atmosphere quite a bit; a few owls tucked their heads under their wings while a large screech owl hooted loudly four or five times.
"I wonder what's into them today, Jax," the blonde called from the counter. "They've never acted like this around you before."
He didn't say anything but he knew that it was his fellow professor's doing, intentional or not. "Well, I'll be quick then. Just need the regular -- two large bags of feed and a package of owl pellets. If you could send it directly to the Owlery, that would be much appreciated." The girl knew that he had trouble with magic and had offered to magic his items to the castle. It surely made things much easier.
The little elf owl peeked out from behind its wing, its large amber eyes fixed on Kassie. "Don't be afraid, Piedgian. This is Kassie." He held out his hand and tenatively, the little owl hopped into his palm. Stroking its soft feathers with his other hand, he brought it a bit closer to his acquaintance. "She won't hurt you."

Kassie looked around as most of the owls hid their heads in their wings and fell quiet. She'd think she'd be use to it by now but she wasn't, The only owl that didn't shy away from her was her own that she had, had since before she started being an animagus. Looking at the store clerk she turned to the owl Jaxon talked to as it hopped onto his arm. She reached out and stroked his feathers being careful not to alarm the ball of feathers.
"Yeah, I'm not gonna hurt you."
The owls large eyes trained on her and he snapped at her fingers with its sharp beak. Kassie frowned and retracted her hand. She inspected the cut on her finger and looked at the bird,
"But apparently you think I'm going to hurt you..."
She spoke but trailed off and stuck the cut finger in her mouth instinctively before looking at the large cut from the owls beak and healing it with a slight wave of her wand. Looking at the faint red line on her finger she stuck her wand back in her bag and took a few steps back which seemed to put the owl at ease.
why in Merlin's name couldn't i have been a bunny animagus?
she thought with a slight sense of sarcasm in her head.

Suprisingly, the elf owl nipped at the professor's finger, drawing a bead of blood. The little ball of feathers began to squirm, digging its sharp talons into his palm and Jaxon shot it a questioning look. The clerk, busy with another customer, hardly noticed when he allowed the owl to flutter back to its perch on the counter. "Sorry about that, miss. I've never seen him act like that before," he said, watching Kassie heal her cut in a jiffy. Somewhere inside him, he was jealous of her talent. If only he could still do minor magic like that, he wouldn't ever take it for granted again.
"We're done here," Jaxon said, making for the door. Before he pushed open the cool glass, he faced his fellow professor with a question. "Think there's any particular reason the birds acted as they did?" It was rhetorical; she needn't answer but from the owls' behavior, he could tell one thing. They were afraid of her. An air around her made them uneasy and as curious as he was, Jaxon wondered why. Perhaps she wasn't fond of owls. That was a weak explanation. Maybe she was an Animagus. That would explain the fear the owls showed. If this was true, she was probably a predator. Was it even proper to ask one if they were an Animagus? Jaxon wasn't sure.

Kassie had stepped away from the owl once it had shown it didn't want her to close. Once she had backed up to stand next to the door the creature eased up.
"Oh, Its okay. Its not their fault."
She walked out the door once Jaxon was through and looked at him as they walked as she crossed her arms loosely across her chest, She had figured he would ask her. Hell she would to if the roles were switched around,
"I'm an Animagus. Wolf to be exact. Small animals have been finicky of me since my form was revealed. I think they can sense my furrier half. The only owl that's not scared of me is my own. But then again if I was an owl and sensed something predatory about someone near me I would act the same way... I love animals and they use to like me but not any more. Not the smaller ones anyways."
