Name: Echo Ashaelyr (originally Ariadne Ashaelyr Saige)
Age: 28
Birthdate/place: 11/05/1987
Species: Human, mostly.
Gender: Female
Family: Purebloods, an ancient line formerly bearing the name of Saige, Echo is the last of her family. Her parents and sister were killed by Death Eaters when she was away at a school in northern Scotland, her grandfather brought her home and raised her on his own from the age of 13.
Appearance:
Build/height- Standing at a height of 5'11", Echo is tall and lean with strong features, including wide shoulders, long legs and slender, calloused hands. She has an athletic build, keeping well trained in physical fighting arts as well as more traditional exercise such as running.
General Description- With high cheekbones, strong jaw and wide shoulders, Echo could easily be described as a striking beauty, but her dismissive bearing and scars somehow steal a bit of that beauty. She normally keeps her long chestnut hair pulled out of her face in a braid or ponytail. The left side of her face is normal save for the three small scars on her eyebrow, with a moss-green eye. Her right side, however, is clearly damaged by something magical. Several scars trace across her forehead and cheekbone, as well as a strange gold and black burn radiating outwards from her eye. The eye itself is a burnished gold color.
Echo's frame is lean and not very curvy, more athletic and sharp angles. She prefers to wear very utilitarian - if not out of century - clothes, normally dark colors. Her normal outfits consist of dark leggings or jeans with leather padding, a sleeveless leather jerkin over a blouse of grey or dark brown. She does not like to wear robes or fashionable clothes, looking as though she has stepped out of an earlier wizarding age. Most often she can be found wearing her ankle-length rawhide duster and a well-worn longsword sheathed at her back, and a pair of practical leather boots.
The strangest article of clothing she wears is a single dark leather glove on her right hand that reaches slightly past her elbow. She never removes it, and always wears a silver bracelet over it. The glove covers the demon infection on her right hand/forearm, while the bracelet binds it. As the binding bracelet is corroded by the demonic magic, it rusts and must be replaced.
Possessions-
--Items always found near or on her person: A long black rawhide duster, a well-worn longsword normally sheathed across her back, Brigalayleth her barn owl, and a small traveling case enchanted with an expanded interior space for all of her belongings for on the road.
--The case contains: several bells of varying sizes in leather cases (for combating dark magical creatures), a pair of dark leather gloves, and a collection of old silver bracelets engraved with runes of binding. There is always a bracelet on her right wrist, worn over the glove.
Personality:
Temperament/Mental Attributes- Echo's personality is normally serious and determined. She can come across as cold and uncaring at first, but once she becomes friendly, her manner, though still guarded, warms up slightly. She is normally cool and collected, with a disinterested manner that will put some people's backs up, but to those that know her better, they recognize that it's just her way of being. She doesn't like crowds or lots of people around her, and is very careful of whom she puts her trust in. Echo is fierce and determined, and her stubbornness is both a strength and a flaw. Much of her adult life has been dedicated to studying, tracking, and defeating creatures of dark magic, and with the latest resurgence of darkling creatures, she has tracked them to the London and Hogsmeade areas.
Echo is good at heart, but that goodness is shielded by layers of distrust, isolation and feigned disinterest. She protects her core fiercely, and her secrets more so. Beneath it is a fear that if those whom she calls friends were to discover the demonic infection in her, they would turn on her. She frowns too much, and does not laugh nearly enough. The demonic taint also alters her body chemistry, often making her sick or in pain.
Perhaps she came to this area of the wizarding world merely in her continuing quest to track and destroy darklings. Or maybe she is tired of wandering in isolation, and seeks a cause that she can make a stand and fight for.
Alliance- None at the moment, as she is new to the area (but is looking for alliances).
Alignment- Neutral chaotic
Strengths/Weaknesses-
--Strengths: Physically strong and skilled in combat, especially with kickboxing and sword-fighting; wandless magic; tracking magical items/creatures; highly intelligent and streetwise; stubborn/determined; independent.
--Weaknesses: Stubborn; isolated; a demonic infection that warps her magic, thereby causing her to have to alter certain spells and be careful how she casts things, especially apparating; does not make friends easily; the demonic infection makes her physically sick or pained at times.
Employment&Education:
-Adults-
Former House- Did not attend Hogwarts or any large established school. Mostly instructed at home by her grandfather.
Job- Expert of dark magical creatures.
Employer- None at this time. Sometimes hired by people to get rid of dark creatures.
OWLs/NEWTs- Did not take them.
Other:
Magical Skills- Excels at wandless magic. Apparition is a huge risk for her, due to her 'infection'.
Patronus- Currently unable to cast one.
Wand- Joshua Pine with a mirror-shard core.
Goals/Aspirations- Largely aimless at the moment, save to continue studying/tracking demons and other dark magical creatures. Has a goal to make contacts in the London area to determine the nature of the recent resurgence of darklings.
Other Information-
History-
Ariadne, known now as Echo, had a relatively pleasant childhood, although it wasn't a charmed life, nor filled with a great deal of love. Her family was the last in an ancient pure blood line, and her parents, while they loved their twin daughters, were pleasant enough yet distant. Mostly the girls were left to their own devices. Sherith enjoyed daydreaming about boys and playing with dolls; Ariadne preferred to spend her time out of doors exploring the moors around their manor and swashbuckling with imaginary foes.
They were both sent to a boarding school for pure-blood wizarding children in northern Scotland. When Ariadne chose to stay over Christmas one winter at the age of 13, it was that choice that saved her life. Death Eaters stormed the manor and murdered her parents and twin sister. The masters at the school said that the young girl awoke screaming at the time of her sister's murder, having felt somehow the life of her twin being torn away even across the distance.
Ariadne returned home to the custody of her grandfather. He took her out of school and tutored her at home, also hiring teachers to train her in physical fighting arts. She never attended Hogwarts, but it was one of her dreams, and regrets. Hers was an isolated childhood that drifted into adulthood. Her grandfather died when she was 18, and Ariadne was left alone in a drafty manor, an inheritor of a vast wealth, but no one to share it with. She closed the manor and left to study abroad, gaining an education from various schools here and there, until she vanished from sight after her 20th birthday.
During her 5 year disappearance, Ariadne shaped herself into Echo, taking up the task of studying, tracking, and destroying all kinds of creatures of darkness. It was during this time that she fought against a greater darkling, a powerful demon named Edzzjerrath. Though she fought it and won, the demon had bitten and cursed her right hand, an infection that slowly began to spread through her mind and body. Through contacts in the wizarding world she was able to find a rune-spell that could bind the infection and prevent it from spreading further. But she hid it with a glove so that others wouldn't treat her like a dark witch or even a darkling herself.
Echo has returned to London in her hunt for the dark things of the world, hearing of new darklings spreading in the area. But perhaps other paths have led her here as well, such as the hunt for the truth behind why her parents and sister had to die, her only clue being that it had something to do with her family's ongoing interest in darklings.
And maybe she has grown tired of her isolation, looking for a new cause to ally herself with, if she can find something worth fighting for.
