Frankly, he didn't know where to start.
Curse Kameren sat on the porch of the burnt remains of his home, smoking a cigarette. Quitting smoking had lasted all of five minutes before he was back again, and the ruins behind him weren't helping with the stress. Since the night of the battle the second story had started collapsing inwards under the weakened foundation. His home was unsalvageable. Once again, he needed to make the impossible happen.
Soon, Curse would have a family to take care of. In a few months he would be married. He eventually hoped to regain custody of his son. Who knew, maybe someday he'd be raising more children with his wife, if Arianna had her way. He needed a safe place for them to live and thrive, a haven for their family that he and Arianna hadn't had growing up. He had tried to give that to Max in Godric's Hollow, but their sanctity had been destroyed by Mosrael.
Now, it was time to rebuild.
Curse had gone through and saved everything that could be saved, but there was no hope for the home. This was the first home he'd ever owned, and now that it was in ruins he wasn't quite sure what to do. He and Arianna talked about moving, but he was happy in Godric's Hollow and they both liked the neighborhood. They resolved to rebuild it. It was for the best.
Rebuilding the home meant closure for Curse, getting past everything that happened with Mosrael. He was being regarded with great honor for destroying the Dark Lady, praised as a wizard as powerful as Albus Dumbledore or Harry Potter. To be honest, though Curse just wanted to forget. He needed to heal from this, and the first place to start was where it happened. He would clear away the rubble and build stronger on top of it. He would persevere. For his family, he would.

The sound of boots crackling over splinters announced that there was someone else at the Kameren homestead. Echo rounded the corner of the building - or what remained of it - and she smiled when her gold and green eyes found the lanky figure of her friend.
"Hey Curse, I thought I'd find you here." She took a seat next to him and surmised the wreckage. After a quiet moment, she waved a hand to encompass the general vicinity. "So, you going to rebuild it or what? Not planning on doing it all by yourself, although knowing you Kamerens, I wouldn't be surprised if that was what you were thinking."
She shrugged off her outer jacket, letting the warm sun rest on her shoulders and bare arms, ignorant of the blackened skin of her right side. "This is nice land, and Arianna tells me you're not planning on selling it. So what kind of house are you thinking," she said bluntly, guessing that her initial assumption was right.
"Something for a family I'm sure?" Echo eyed him with a quiet smile. "I think Max should have treehouse too. I think I heard Ralin plotting to get Nuri in on building the kid something like that, though," she squinted up at the sun. "I think they were actually debating about how to sneak Max away for a weekend to let him help them. But you didn't hear it from me."
The witch looked at her friend and shrugged. "I stop by Hogwarts now and then, to say hi to Max, and would you believe it, Brightweather has me consulting for the DADA professor now and then. Wouldn't be able to defend himself against a boggart. But..." she sighed, shaking her head. "He's the only one who'd take the spot after this war business."

Curse wasn't surprised when he saw Echo round the corner. He had been seeing her often lately, either when they'd run into each other or when she would track him down for something. He didn't mind it, though. He'd missed having a friend to hang around; Alex was busy lately with auror work, and though Arianna was his best friend, it was different with your future wife than being with friends. During last school year, Curse's friend he saw often had been Theo. Curse pushed Bowre out of his mind, getting angry even at the thought of his friend's betrayal. He didn't know how he could have been so foolish to trust him.
"Hey Curse, I thought I'd find you here." Curse grunted in greeting but didn't speak up, lost in thought. "So, you going to rebuild it or what? Not planning on doing it all by yourself, although knowing you Kamerens, I wouldn't be surprised if that was what you were thinking."
"You know I would if I could lift anything." Curse smirked, looking at his friend and breathing smoke as he spoke. "No, a friend's brother does building work. They'll get started as soon as we know what we want."
"Something for a family I'm sure?"
"Of course." Curse nodded, running a hand through his hair. The trouble came when he and Arianna discussed how big of a family they would be building for. They had had another argument about it last night; even when they were dating, they had both always agreed they wanted kids one day. Curse's poison made things difficult, however. If they wanted Curse to see their kids grow to adulthood, they would have to start their family right now. Were they ready for parenthood right now? After what happened with Mosrael, Curse wasn't so sure anymore.
"I think Max should have treehouse too. I think I heard Ralin plotting to get Nuri in on building the kid something like that, though."
"If they want to, I'm sure he'd love that. Not like I can build that for him," Curse gestured to his injured shoulder. It was getting better, but far slower than Curse wanted it to. He could hardly lift Max with his injury at the moment, let alone build a treehouse for him.
"I think they were actually debating about how to sneak Max away for a weekend to let him help them. But you didn't hear it from me."
"They'll get me in trouble if they do that," Curse chuckled, taking another puff of his cigarette. In Amelia's mind, Curse was responsible for any trouble Max got into at Hogwarts. It was going to be a long seven years. "I'd better talk to Ralin about that: if I want custody back, Max stays at school." Curse talked about his custody battle with Amelia rather casually; he knew where his ex was coming from in her concerns, and in some sense agreed with her. But the Dark Lady was now gone, and once Curse rebuilt the house and had a place for Max to come home to, Amelia would be running out of excuses. At least he hoped so. For as alright he claimed to be with the predicament, Curse still really missed his son.
"Brightweather has me consulting for the DADA professor now and then. Wouldn't be able to defend himself against a boggart. But... He's the only one who'd take the spot after this war business."
Curse nodded. "Brightweather asked me about it as well, but I won't. I'm done fighting, I'm not teaching children how to make the same mistakes I made." Curse ground out his cigarette butt, sighing as he looked behind them at the wreckage of his house. "Ah, this bloody house. To be honest, the pink was starting to grow on me..."

"Ah, this bloody house. To be honest, the pink was starting to grow on me..."
“At last you ad..mit it was pink.”
Alex smirked, surveying the wreckage. Pink brick lay in the dust and rubble of the lawn. Parts of the house may still be standing, but it wasn’t liveable. Alex was honestly surprised at the fact that it still stood, so much of the integral walls and structure had flung themselves at attackers or had been blasted out of the house by spells.
“Hello Echo,” He greeted the woman before turning his gaze to his brother.
“You can… always paint it pink again, you know.” He said, turning his back to the house and facing the street, watching normal life run on outside the blast zone that had formerly been the Kameren house.

Echo nodded, sifting through the rubble until she pulled out a piece of siding with its unique shade of pink. "I think you both are strange for liking this color. Reminds me of a potion they used to make for upset stomachs." She tossed it to Alex. "But hey, if it's home to you, then any color will grow on you."
She leaned back against the wall, adjusting her sword so she was comfortable. "So, if you don't mind me asking, what's the whole deal with the custody? Any chance you'll be able to find a settlement early?" Echo wasn't very familiar with the intricacies of the law on either side of magic, well, except for those involving magical beings and anti-demon restrictions.
"I'm considering taking the DADA position temporarily, so long as Brightweather doesn't mind a being like me at her school. She doesn't strike me as one to be prejudiced though. Often reminds me of Dumbledore for some reason." The scarred woman glanced at both men.
"So how are you both feeling, I hope you're not pushing yourself too hard. Be a shame if you'd have to go back to the hospital for complications. The shoulder, Curse?"
