Name: Aleth Galenfir (Allie)
Age: 16
Birthdate/place: Nov 18, 2006 in the north suburbs of London.
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Build/height- Aleth is a short, sparky girl who uses her directionally challenged frame to every advantage, from sneaking around and causing general mischief, to zipping around everyone in flying class (crashing numerous times from what she calls ‘dizzles’). She keeps herself fit by exercising, so she maintains a lean, slim size.
General Description- Mouse-brown curly hair frames Aleth’s fine-boned face, grey eyes spark from a be-freckled expression, and her mouth is usually quirked in a sarcastic expression. She keeps her hair cut short, in a wild tangle of curls fluffed around her head, tamed only by the pair of Quidditch goggles she likes to wear on her head. A wide scar traces her left jawline, from an attack by Death Eaters when she was much younger. Her hands are slender, just right for picking someone’s unsuspecting pocket, and her movements are quick, almost nervous, causing her to also be quite clumsy at times. She doesn’t like robes, preferring baggy cargo pants and t-shirts to anything fancy.
Possessions- Quidditch goggles, an old, rickety Nimbus 1000 broomstick, a lockpicking set, a sleek golden tabby (Sol), and Aldebaran (barn owl). She is a pack rat by nature due to her orphan roots, so she has a collection of odds and ends in her dorm room.
Personality:
Temperament/Mental Attributes-Aleth is smart, but she doesn’t always use it for good reasons. Sarcastic and reclusive, making friends doesn’t come easily to her. Not a fan of authority, she often breaks the rules and exasperates the Hogwarts staff. Beneath her prickly interior, however, she feels insecure, and wants to stay at Hogwarts, as it’s become home to her. She also wants to make friends, but can never seem to get it right. Secretly she loves the Hogwarts staff and considers them family, but she hardly shows that to them. She has an agreement with the house elves, however. Midnight cookie baking, trying out new recipes all the time. She’s a night owl, and stays up late all the time. She adores flying, and is very fast in the air, but her clumsiness seems determined to keep her from playing on the Quidditch team.
Alliance- Dumbledore’s Army
Strengths-
”There’s no way I’ll fail this one.” Aleth’s clever mind is a great asset, but only when she applies herself.
”Now you see it, now you don’t…” She knows dozens of tricks and sleight of hand, from pick pocketing to juggling. She still practices her thief skills, but always returns the items, just for the challenge.
”This is home now. Back off.” Loyalty runs deep in her blood, especially for Hogwarts, which she regards as her home.
Weaknesses-
“Whatever.” Aleth’s prickly attitude and sarcasm often drives people away from her. It makes her tough, but also distances her from others.
“Did you drop this?” Her thieving skills, while usually benign since she returns things, can be a problem as well. She’s good friends with detention.
”Oops, watch out!” Clumsiness plagues her, coming usually at the worst times. Though she’s usually deft with her fingers, her legs disagree.
Employment&Education:
-Students-
House-Slytherin
Year- 6th
OWLs/NEWTs-She scored very well on her OWLS, finally, to the relief of the staff, applying her clever mind. She celebrated by crashing into the side of the Gryffindor tower on her broomstick…on accident.
Other:
Magical Skills- She has a special bond with animals, allowing her to speak to them sometimes. She discovered this when a scraggly tomcat suddenly warned her of an ambush by a thief's guild ahead. This skill also makes people think oddly of her, because she'll be seen apparently talking to herself.
Patronus- Lynx
Wand-Twelve inches long, whippy, ash with core of a gryphon’s feather.
Other Information- Her favorite subjects are Flying, Care of Magical Creatures, Ancient Runes, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. She loves the challenge of trying to unravel security spells and wards.
History-
Aleth doesn’t remember much of her family, only that they died when she was nine. She remembers a happy childhood before then, in a small, loving family that didn't have much by way of worldly success, but they were rich in ways of the heart. And no matter what happened to her since then, those blurred years, though hardly a memory any more, still are a light that warms her hearts and helps her make the right choice. Her parents were kind souls, but somehow managed to get mixed up in the wrong crowd - a band of gypsies, to be precise. When they tried to leave and find a place of safety they were wrongly accused of selling to a rival, and one early morning the band's thugs attacked, killing her parents and leaving Aleth barely alive. She reawakened in St. Mungos, because even though her parents weren't wizards, the Ministry knew she was a witch, and relayed her to Mungos. After recovering, she was sent to an orphanage, but after a year, before she could receive her invitation to Hogwarts, Aleth disappeared from the orphanage.
Frustrated by the orphanage, and fearing for her future of being an unwanted young girl, she decided to try and make her own way. Her stubbornness would be both a strength and a weakness.
She lived on the streets for several months, and was eventually taken in by another gypsy family. This time, it was the kind Breandans who took in the orphan witch and raised her, teaching her all sorts of 'street skills'. Though they did their best to teach her right from wrong, Aleth got on the wrong side of the law on minor crimes. The authorities at the MoM persuaded her to attend Hogwarts instead, and the Breandans encouraged her as well (Sol - her cat - was a present from them when she went away). So Aleth finally arrived at the castle school, uncertain and afraid. But soon the school began to feel like home. She arrived when she was twelve, so she missed the first year of school. However, through testing, she was able to skip the First Year and pick up on the Second year.
The next couple of years passed well, with her learning all the hidden places and passageways in her castle-home. She was reclusive and prickly, and didn't make many friends, but recently has begun to truly yearn for those she can call friends. But her old habits and attitude always seem to get in the way at the worst time. Facing her sixth year, Aleth is determined to try and fight that rebellious side of her, but she doesn't have much hope of succeeding. But she's going to have fun with the fall term, whatever may come!
